Restoration

This body of work enables the viewer to visualize the perspective of the patient during arthroscopic reconstructive surgery [knee surgery]. Through the cloud of anesthesia the viewer searches to find the familiar but is presented with an ambient glow, sterile machinery, and translucent personnel while asking - where am I, who is in the room, how long have I been here, what are they doing… as the notion of consciousness quickly fades in and out. The operating room has been reserved for our electronic picture windows while our fly on the wall role keeps us comfortably at bay. This body of work moves beyond the picture window enabling the viewer to progress through the image as if they were remembering the surgery themselves. Although the event captures an operation done on the artist, it is far from the cultural standard of feminine beauty found on the artist Orlan’s operating table, and resembles the first person perspective found in Julian Schnabel’s film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as the camera lens becomes the viewers eye(s).

image: Restoration panel #2

image: Restoration panel #3

image: Restoration panel #4

image: Restoration panel #5
Similar to the mass consumption and waste imagery of Chris Jordan I have an interest in this process/ subject of these discarded materials, and how the layering of subject directs meaning.Discarded glass, cullet, is presented not as trash but as a texturized layered translucent image that is set aside to be melted down and recycled. This body of work captures the layered qualities found in my other bodies of work but accents the "real" rather than the composite.

image: závada 2

image: závada 3
Sometimes so interlaced that the layers merge to create a new experience as the original becomes altered in its memory. 1in15 portrays such an event as it pictorially encapsulates places, people, textures, smells, aesthetics, depth, altitude, and other residual compounds that construct the visual memory.

image: 1in15 - Hamr Dobriv Ctyri.

image: 1in15 - Karlstejn Dva

image: 1in15 - Kost Tri

image: 1in15 - Medvedin Ctyri

image: 1in15 - Praha v Vecer Dva
The illusiveness of time imposes itself while constructing space to simulate fragmented memory. In this context, of memory, one is consciously forced by ones inquisitive nature to condense all we can into a blurred event, triggered by a common visual reminder, which has been layered with experience.

image: Exodus 16

image: Exodus 17

image: Exodus 43

image: Exodus 52

image: Exodus 59
With no identifiable beginning or end the viewer is left to construct his or her own narrative. They choose where the journey will go, what the destination will be, and when to get off.Príšti Stanice translates as "Next Stop" and, the work captures the beauty and vividness of each metro station on the A line, as well as of the cyclical commute itself.
