The integration of experience, intuition, and experimentation yields diverse styles and subject matter. Capiz&amp;rsquo;s work is packed with energy, sometimes soothing, sometimes chaotic, and always intriguing. The various people, travels, and stories Capiz has encountered in his life serve as his inspiration. Hi[i]&lt;span style="font-family: "&gt;s &lt;/span&gt;[/i]work has continued to evolve over four decades, during which he has immersed himself in various art forms. &lt;span style="mso-ansi-language: EN;" lang="EN"&gt;&amp;ldquo;It&amp;rsquo;s all about art for me,&amp;rdquo; explains Capiz. &lt;/span&gt;His paintings, large and small, are chronicles of his life, where he has been and who he is today. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&#xD;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"&gt;[size= small; font-family: Calibri]Capiz&amp;rsquo;s paintings can be found in many corporate and private collections in the United States (including Hilton and Westin Hotels and Northwestern College), as well as across the globe in Iceland, Japan, Canada, Spain, Argentina and Mexico (including the private collections of the former President of Mexico, Vicente Fox). [/size]The exhibit, curated by BPAC Art Gallery Director Alejandra Pelinka, includes &lt;span style="mso-ansi-language: EN;" lang="EN"&gt;two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and textile artwork &lt;/span&gt;that explores values, traditions, and meanings of home and community, and which displays a unique insight into the artist&amp;rsquo;s perspective of home and community. Artwork on display entices viewers to reminisce walks in Minnesota&amp;rsquo;s forests with loved ones, imagine the fragrance of an Indian feast preparation, empathize with the morning rush in a West African community, view scenes of Ojibwe stories passed down for generations, and more. The objective of this exhibit is to celebrate both the differences and similarities that exist between people and cultures.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&#xD;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Calibri;"&gt;[size= small]&lt;span style="mso-ansi-language: EN;" lang="EN"&gt;The free and public opening reception for &lt;em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"&gt;Cultural Perspectives[/i] will take place at the Burnsville Performing Art Center&amp;rsquo;s 2,000 square foot art gallery on Thursday, June 17, from 6:00 &amp;ndash; 9:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided, and visitors will be encouraged to mingle and discuss artwork with the artists. font-family: Calibri]This year marks the fourth annual International Festival of Burnsville in Burnsville&amp;rsquo;s Nicollet Commons Park on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. During this six-hour event, guests peruse food and vendor tents, and admire cultural displays. Dancers, musicians, and other entertainers exhibit our city&amp;rsquo;s diverse population and traditions. The center has two theatres; a 1000 seat Proscenium Stage, and an intimate 150 seat Black Box. The lobby is two stories tall, featuring an all-glass facade, and a sweeping view of Nicollet Commons Park, the Minnesota River Valley, and the Minneapolis skyline. In addition to the theatres, the Center has a 2000 square-foot art gallery, meeting rooms and a large rehearsal room. Presentations at the BPAC range from classical music to comedy, from jazz to Christian rock, from country to rock and roll. There are dramas, comedies, dance, local arts organizations, diverse gallery exhibits, and national touring artists. LCPS also works to create public awareness of pastel as a unique and beautiful art form. LCPS&amp;rsquo; members consist of amateur and professional artists. LCPS&amp;rsquo; focus is the medium of pastel, a pure pigment used in making all fine art paints. Pastel is &lt;span style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;the most permanent of all media when applied to a permanent ground and properly framed. There is no oil to cause darkening or cracking, nor other substances or mediums to cause fading or blistering. This year&amp;rsquo;s eclectic exhibit will feature the artwork of over 30 BVAS artist members. Awards for this competition are sponsored by area businesses and the Burnsville Visual Arts Society in support of the visual arts in the community. Awards will be presented at 7 pm by Mayor Elizabeth Kautz for Best of Show, Award of Excellence, Award of Merit, and Honorable Mention in the following genres: oil/acrylic, sculpture, photography, drawing/pastels, assorted, and watercolor.
