Join one of the Midwest’s largest associations of watercolor artists to celebrate this exhibit on October 14 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center. [size= small]Burnsville Performing Arts Center (BPAC) is proud to present its first solo artist exhibit featuring the artwork of contemporary artist Stephen Capiz.[/size] Capiz grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and now works out of Minneapolis in the Northrup King Building. The exhibit features a selection of abstract and semi-abstract landscape pieces from Capiz’s diverse body of work. Capiz’s work is packed with energy, sometimes soothing, sometimes chaotic, and always intriguing. The various people, travels, and stories Capiz has encountered in his life serve as his inspiration. Hi[i]s [/i]work has continued to evolve over four decades, during which he has immersed himself in various art forms. “It’s all about art for me,” explains Capiz. His paintings, large and small, are chronicles of his life, where he has been and who he is today.

[/size]The exhibit, curated by BPAC Art Gallery Director Alejandra Pelinka, includes two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and textile artwork that explores values, traditions, and meanings of home and community, and which displays a unique insight into the artist’s perspective of home and community. Artwork on display entices viewers to reminisce walks in Minnesota’s forests with loved ones, imagine the fragrance of an Indian feast preparation, empathize with the morning rush in a West African community, view scenes of Ojibwe stories passed down for generations, and more. The objective of this exhibit is to celebrate both the differences and similarities that exist between people and cultures.
[size= small]The free and public opening reception for Cultural Perspectives[/i] will take place at the Burnsville Performing Art Center’s 2,000 square foot art gallery on Thursday, June 17, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided, and visitors will be encouraged to mingle and discuss artwork with the artists. [size= small; font-family: Calibri]This year marks the fourth annual International Festival of Burnsville in Burnsville’s Nicollet Commons Park on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. During this six-hour event, guests peruse food and vendor tents, and admire cultural displays. Dancers, musicians, and other entertainers exhibit our city’s diverse population and traditions. It is the mission of the International Festival to eliminate prejudice and discrimination by conducting a fun community event designed to promote and celebrate cultural diversity through the sharing of art, food, and music of various cultures.[/size]

In addition to the theatres, the Center has a 2000 square-foot art gallery, meeting rooms and a large rehearsal room. Presentations at the BPAC range from classical music to comedy, from jazz to Christian rock, from country to rock and roll. There are dramas, comedies, dance, local arts organizations, diverse gallery exhibits, and national touring artists. There is something for everyone at the BPAC.

[size= small]The Lake Country Pastel Society (LCPS) seeks to unite artists interested in the pastel medium and to serve their needs by encouraging artistic growth and development through education and sharing. LCPS also works to create public awareness of pastel as a unique and beautiful art form. LCPS’ members consist of amateur and professional artists. LCPS’ focus is the medium of pastel, a pure pigment used in making all fine art paints. Pastel is the most permanent of all media when applied to a permanent ground and properly framed. There is no oil to cause darkening or cracking, nor other substances or mediums to cause fading or blistering. Pastels from the 16th century exist today, as fresh and alive as the day they were painted![/size][/b]

Paintings, letterpress, prints, sculpture, photography, ceramic, and textiles will display an assortment of glimpses into and perspectives of cultures and countries around the world. Visit the floating markets in Bangkok, explore the architecture of Angkor Wat through traditional Lao weaving, experience the excitement of a sailboat race in Panama, discover the significance of Tonantzin Talli (Mother Earth) for the Mexihca culture, and much more in this truly diverse exhibit. [size= small]The free and public opening reception and awards ceremony for Cultural Perspectives[/i] will be held at the Burnsville Performing Art Center’s beautiful 2,000 square foot art gallery on Thursday, June 18, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Appetizers have been generously donated by Stephano’s Italian Cuisine in Burnsville, music will be provided from 7:00 – 8:00 pm by Tre Corda Trio, and the artists will be on hand to discuss their work. [/size]Cultural Perspectives[/i] will also be open for an artist meet-and-greet during the International Festival of Burnsville on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in the gallery from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. [size= small]The Burnsville Visual Arts Society (BVAS) will hold its popular annual juried art show Art Fete[/i] at the new Burnsville Performing Arts Center. The mission of Art Fete[/i] is to support local emerging and professional artists and provide them with the opportunity to exhibit and sell their artwork in a public venue. This year’s eclectic exhibit will feature the artwork of over 30 BVAS artist members. Awards for this competition are sponsored by area businesses and the Burnsville Visual Arts Society in support of the visual arts in the community. [/size]
[size= small]The free opening reception and awards ceremony for Art Fete[/i] will be held at the Burnsville Performing Art Center’s beautiful 2,000 square foot art gallery on Thursday, April 16, from 6 – 9 pm. Appetizers will be provided by Chateau Lamothe, piano music will be provided by Eddie Thorp, and the artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Awards will be presented at 7 pm by Mayor Elizabeth Kautz for Best of Show, Award of Excellence, Award of Merit, and Honorable Mention in the following genres: oil/acrylic, sculpture, photography, drawing/pastels, assorted, and watercolor. Judges this year are; Rachel Daly Flentje, Exhibition Director at the Bloomington Art Center, David Feinberg, Professor of Art at the University of Minnesota, and Howard Christopherson, Photographer and owner of ICEBOX Quality Framing and Gallery. [size= small][i]January 19, 2009 – Burnsville, MN –[/i] In [/size][i][size= 14pt; line-height: 115%]Community + Evolution + Art = BPAC[/size][/i][size= small], curated by the Dakota County Historical Society, the spotlight is on talented local artists and the history of change that is Burnsville’s past and present. [/size]Built around the core idea that the new Burnsville Performing Arts Center is many things, including a gathering place for an increasingly diverse community, the exhibition’s deliberately eclectic mix of sculptures, paintings, photographs, and artifacts is intended to convey the multitude of ways the Center can be used by the community. The exhibition opening is [b]Thursday, January 29, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.[/b] and many of the artists and historical society staff will be on hand to discuss their work.
[size= small; font-family: Calibri]Traditional portrait, still life, and landscape paintings influenced by the Minnesota River School introduce visitors to the 2,000 square foot space. [/size]Inside, patrons will experience whimsical creatures, furniture inspired by nature, bright abstract paintings, intricate, cold steel sculptures and more. Most of the participating artists are members the Burnsville Visual Arts Society, and local artists created all of the work displayed.
[size= small]Complementing the fine art on exhibit are several historical vignettes created by the Dakota County Historical Society. [/size]As the curator of the show, the Society brought out artifacts and images from its collection to highlight the evolution of Burnsville from Dakota Indian village to modern suburb, ending with the Heart of the City project.
