Painted on gessoed paper where the paint can be lifted off ...I describe this painting as a fun challenge! It started as my demonstration at Art on a Line 2008 as a floral. Afterwards, I thought the color choices and movement suggested underwater scenery. Once I had a good direction to proceed, what was left to do .... but to choose a silly name.

Soft Quilted Tulips

This soft floral painting is filled with activity. From the tulips flowers, plants and their leaves to the background that is treated like a quilt, light and color pushes and pulls the senses. One can feel a very transparent treatment of the pigment. This painting was juried into the 2008 Minnesota Watercolor Society Spring Show - Spring Splash. Exhibition will be on display a the Colonial Church of Edina, Edina, MN. April 6 - May 2 Reception is Thursday April 10, 2008 6 - 8:30pm. Awards at 7pm. Fred Somers, juror. This floral abstract painting has now sold but can be commissioned in colors that appeal to your decorative desires.

Park Trails 2

This painting debued as an entry in the Northstar Watercolor Society Fall Show 2007. The exhibit was held at the Phipps Center for the Arts, Hudson, WI. I propped a figure against a tree reading a book in a park setting not too far from us - at Monsignor Park, in St. Cloud. In this painting, I have abstracted and simplified the landscape and introduced a limited palette of colors to create color harmony. An undercoating and a wide value range also adds pizzaz and I have no fear of adding enough pigment to do the job.

The Henhouse Watering Hole

An interesting collection of chickens at a private farm just waiting for their photo moment. Eye level snapshots are a treasure to behold! I also enjoyed the playfulness of using dibs and dabs of color throughout this painting.

A Figurative painting - with a rendition of a new mother and her infant sleeping in her arms. A variety of colors add visual interest to the scene. Great for Hospital Art or a new family.

Leap of Faith 2

Note this action packed winter scene ..... and it reminds me of my son who loves to ski board and do tricks. This skiier figure is getting a thrill out of leaping from high sites and navigating to the bottom of the trail. With this extreme sport, I'd call it "a Leap of Faith".

Bold Quilted Tulips

This is a strong painting filled with deep bold colors. The painting is an abstracted floral with roots to still standing in the garden. I liked developing the Center of Interest and pushing all the other information to the backburner. Bold Quilted Tulips was accepted into the 2008 Minnesota Watercolor Society Spring Juried Show "Spring Splash". Fred Somers, juror. Sunny Retreat

Of late, I find that I am interested in painting abstracted interior scenes with figures. In this painting, my model was posed reading a book in a sunny nook. Do you agree that the sunshine beams really add interesting designs to the scene? They also amplified the range of values I could use in the composition. Color harmonies give a feeling that these chosen colors belong together, and by repetition, one can find color dancing all around the setting. I also really like how soft the couch fabric reads in comparison to woodwork. Variety is the spice of life! This composition should read very strong from a great distance. Can you see the large simplified shapes from across the room? I hope you enjoy!

Dancers - Spring Glitz

This is the time of the year for the exciting moments of Spring Programs and Competitions! This painting is action packed, has colors to drool over and where one can find little movements revealing the personalities of the figures. Note the undercoating color - as it adds to the glow of the painting. A metallic additive adds sparkle to the costumes. This painting will be on display in the Red River Watercolor Society Juried National Watercolor Art Show held at the Hjemkomst Center, Moorhead. May 5 - June 15, 2008.
