Installation Shots from Internal | External

This print aims to point out the lenghts women will go to in order to attain the physical appearance of another. The mirror serves its purpose by forcing the viewer to look at themselves ( somthing more difficult than it should be) and relate themselves to the issue. (pictured 3rd) This two part work juxtaposes a pistol with surgical or medical materials aiming to portray the violence I see in the pursuit of beauty. After viewing an ad for a facial cream promising Infinite Youth I felt compelled to examine how these methods of self beautification do the opposite. (pictured 4th) This series examines women in early wartime era America and their expectations. These prints, made on dress pattern paper and sewed and embroidered onto fabric express their Obligations to be classically beautiful as well as maintain a household, a job, and the stereotypical women related work all at once.

image: partial installation shot

image: Infinite Youth I & II

image: Obligations I & II
Priorities I ('It don't never get good until about 3 in the morning")

I connected this to the delicate position women were placed in in the 1920s where, presented with a situation in which family, marriage or sufficient income couldn't sustain them, a career in prostitution might mean survival.
Unnecessary and almost comical to me - plastic surgery takes something vanity related and adds something surgical.
