I suspect the only places to do this is on the back porch of one of the houses on the Wisconsin side of the river.Follow on Facebook!
Each image was pieced together, which allowed for a reduction of perspective distortion. I did leave a few hints that this was a collage, but I tried to keep the sharp edges to a minimum to keep it as realistic as possible (there are a few folks in the crowd missing arms, heads, etc..) Lots of work went into this, 40+ hours not counting the beer drinking and photo-taking at the ballgame. The nice thing about this photo is that it allowed me to stay up several nights listening to the Twins on the Radio. Photos were taken Weds, July 21st (Cleveland Indians vs. Minnesota Twins).www.gardnerphotos.com Follow on Facebook!

The hiking trail this was taken from was the Magnetic Rock Trail, and as a previous photo I took mentioned, it was affected by the 2007 Ham Lake fire. In my mind, this is a great "Smokey Bear" shot--dark, foreboding, monochromatic. However, it wouldn't be fair to use this as an example of the ugliness brought on by a forest fire--the color version of the image shows excellent fall color, lots of yellows and reds as the land shows life just over a year after the fire. The lighting was also dramatic--the sun was out behind me but as seen in the photo, there were moody clouds in the area. I'll load the color version to show the difference next...All photos are for sale. It was a warm, rainy, foggy and sloppy, not necessarily in that order. I thought that the fog would add to the mood, but when I arrived the fog was so thick that I was afraid it would affect the tonal quality of image. I decided to live with it and the result isn't too bad.
The cabin is near Grand Marais, MN, and the owner graciously let us stay there for a few nights while visiting the area--the photo was taken in appreciation... One of several photos taken that night of this cabin--this particular exposure was around 15 minutes. Lake Superior is behind the camera as this was taken from rocks that jut out into the lake. The fog or mist you see in the bottom left hand side is the blur of the waves as they crash up on the beach. Magnetic Rock is a short hike off of the trail. In this photo, it is very easy to see the results of the Ham Lake fire--while tragic, the fire created a beautifully surreal landscape of burned trees and colorful new growth.
