It's a bit of a metaphysical joke, instead playing the chicken asking around for its mother, the chicken would go around picking fights with different kinds of trees. Tempting fate and the strength of his/her personal mortality,or the strength of nature.... I'm thinking here of the Cowardly Lion, "I'll fight ya with one hand behind my back.." That kind of thing.
Coldcase refers to a case unresolved, the uneasy feeling that there is something mysterious &/or dreadful about to be discovered beneath the surface of the image. What it is, is not known but it has a ghostly sense about it.
Get Out

If you open the book expecting to be able discern the secrets there, the book actively hides its content in a type of frustrating nonsense, cryptic images and dislodged collaged poetry. It means what it says,: GET OUT! An overt slap on the wrist. It is not satisfying on any kind of superficial level, but hopefully speaks on a deeper level to the patient and poetry seekers.

image: Get Out backcover

image: Get Out

image: Get Out

image: Get Out

image: Get Out Page 7 & 8

image: Get Out page 9 & 10

image: Get Out Page 11 & 12

image: Get Out Page 13 & 14
Ink painted on a thin plexiglass plate, scrafitoed, then sent through the press. This is one of the History pieces done in Graduate school. I painted this back in 1994, before I became a collagist. A friend just recently sent this image to me via e-mail and I would like to show it here. Sometimes it happens that you see a piece from a time before you gained a new perspective or sophistication. I think this is a good thing to happen, you can see the work in a fresh light or see a clear connection to present work, which is reassuring and very interesting as well.
This particular collage precedes the main idea of the set, which is to reflect a translation from classic literature whose plotlines focus on journeys. I include this collage due to the impression of two animals passing one another while traveling in opposite directions, ships passing in the night, as they say.
