Rocky Mountains

I did this gouache on paper painting on site, while traveling through the rocky mountains. It's an abstraction inspired by the scene around me at the time, which included a stream running through the valley. Years later, I created "Rocky Mountain II", which is an acrylic painting that used this as a srarting point.

I did this painting looking out my apartment window near Franklin Avenue and Bloomington in South Minneapoiis, in the fall of 1977. The church on the upper right side, an interesting sandstone building, subsequently burned down.

Revelation

Everdance

This painting started out as a crucifixion, and then evolved into a more Hindu looking image, an integration of two traditions that interest me. (Check out the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda, such as "The Second Coming of Christ, The Resurrection of the Christ Within You", which I am currently reading.[winter 2009]) The title is taken from a song by an English rock band named "Curved Air".

Birdman

This piece relates to "The Young Lady", but here I use the idea of transperancy, to create a tilted rectangle within the composition. The title is once again suggested by forms in the abstract image.
