Conference of the Birds, metaphorically maps out the journey of the human ego and the quest for truth. In this classic tale from Iran, the bireds of the world take flight on a pilgrimage to find thier celebrated king, but the dangers and hardships encountered on the journey cause many in the flock to abandon thier serach. In the end the small number of birds that survive uncover a profound secret. He is joined by his Comrade Cocinero Castro and an all-star community cast for his new series Compromise cannot clear the palate of war. The only problem is that he has become a target of the government and they are trying to make him fair and balanced any way they can. WAYS OF KNOWING November 2- 4, 2006 @ 7:30p.m. Pangea World Theater Studio 711 West Lake Street, Minneapolis Box office 612 203 1088 Ways of Knowing is a performance exploring diverse perspectives of contemporary Negritude through improvisation, dance, story telling, projected images, live music and literary narrative. Conceived, developed and performed by Bill Cottman, Beverly Cottman, Steve Hirsh, Tom Kanthak, Mankwe Ndosi, Michael O'Brien, Roxane Wallace, and J. Otis Powell, this production offers commentary on the metamorphosis of the Negro from moral debate and historical controversy to self-realized human being, from formula and fiction to flesh and bone. Ways of Knowing ventures through an inheritance of movements, songs, stories, images and aesthetic values from an African American point of view. "We are not the object of the stories we tell but the subjects. We are not victims of the history but vessels carrying our own truth", says writer and artist J. Otis Powell. "Our ways of knowing continue to create the universe and our improvisation continue to build our stories from amnesia that sickens society," says J.Otis. Pangea World Theater, along with KFAI as media sponsor of the play, presents Ways of Knowing as a part of its own quest to explore new artistic processes, risk-takings and aesthetic inventions of the unique and diverse voices.
