ArtSoup Community Arts Festival looking for artists
by Britt Aamodt
The fourth installment of Elk River’s community arts festival ArtSoup will descend on Handke Stadium June 18 and 19. The event will feature a mix of live entertainment, children’s activities, food vendors and art booths.
Again this year, ArtSoup will present a fine arts tent. All artists are encouraged to submit up to three pieces to the juried art show. The Elk River Area Arts Alliance (ERAAA), the sponsor of ArtSoup, is currently accepting slides and/or photos of artwork for jurying. Deadline for entry is April 30.
Though any artist may enter, “the primary purpose of ArtSoup is to feature artists from Elk River and surrounding communities,” said Harvey Schroeder, fine arts coordinator for ArtSoup.
The show will encompass all visual media, including painting, sculpture, photography, digital work and ceramics.
“People should not be frightened to put their work in ArtSoup because they don’t think they’re good enough. They are good enough,” said Schroeder.
The fine arts tent will be open to the public for the duration of ArtSoup, giving artists an opportunity to present their work to over 3,000 festivalgoers. Entrants also have a chance at winning cash prizes totaling $300.
For information or an application, contact the ERAAA at (763) 441-4725 or elkriverart@sherbtel.net. Photos/slides, along with a $15 entry fee, should be sent to or dropped off at the ERAAA office on the first floor of the old Handke School, 1171 Main St., Elk River.
