Statement

I had several chances to talk with school kids after my first book was published, and many of them asked about what I would write next. I mentioned several ideas to them--and every time, my "Halloween" idea met with the biggest positive response. So, I decided to go ahead and tell Charley's story. Charley is a little boy who would rather face a graveyard full of ghouls than trick-or-treat on boring old Milton Street with his goofy new stepfather. But after getting several Halloween surprises, Charley starts to see his neighborhood and his stepfather in a whole new way.

Reviews

"Halloween books come around every year, but this one is a treat for the whole family. . . . This light-hearted story is perfect if your kids are in a new neighborhood or family situation." Mahoning Valley Parent
"Charley dreads trick-or-treating with his goofy new stepfather on his boring new street, but to his surprise, this Halloween turns out to be the best one yet. All adults, particularly Charley?s stepfather, are positively depicted in this reassuring and upbeat story." Horn Book Guide
