The sheer power of horses galloping over a field, generating enormous amounts of energy as they fly across the land, was the motivation for this work. The impression created by this scene was so powerful that the coloration used to portray the animals had more to do with actual force in nature that they seemed to represent, more important than the actual hues of the horses themselves.

This painting was initially displayed at the Minnetonka Center for Art Education in the mid '80s, and then toured Minnesota as part of a larger collection of work by Minnesota artists.
