This piece is created from 1/8" porcelain plates and fired to cone 8. A low fired "mica" like glaze and underglaze were used to highlight the sculptural aspects.
The concept "Stoic Breakthrough" captures the pain that some "breakthroughs" necessitate. The first reaction is not always joy, exhaustion or relief... but sometimes if it has been a long hard effort fraught with pain, you get there and seeminly unfeeling, an eye may well up with tears. You are almost beyond emotion. If you look carefully, the eye on the right side of the face reflects a welling and subtle tear.
