This is a found object sculpture with a purse. I created a peice that mimicked what it might be like to find someone's belongings, such as a purse, cast off in a ditch. The personal information you might find inside could surprise you. I'd been working with other insect imagery and created a insect collection where each regular element of a purse also housed various insects (crickets, spiders, beetles, ladybugs, bees etc). The base was created using floral foam over a peice of wood. I coated it thick with caulk and covered it with soil. Then sealed the soil with a matte spray acrylic to prevent it from flaking. I then randomly inserted grasses found on the side of the road. The larger leaves are wire leaves sprouting from inside the purse. I used real leaves that have been treated with a perservative to prevent crumbling and sewed them onto the wire leaves I created.
