this could really be interpreted in a number of ways but this is the thought that went in behind it. there were two ideas that came together.
Individuality by conformity. Everyone tries to be so different, different music on their ipods, but everyone has an ipod. different faces for their phone, but so many people have the phone. shop at different stores for the same clothes. so many different ways to claim individuality through consumerism, but we are really more similar than we think. The cubes all have different finishes and cuts on them. some have holes, some cuts, some patina, some rust, some ground down, etc... but they are all essentially cubes.
also, today it seems like everything is being made mobile. radios, computers, phones, t.v.'s, dvd players, etc. the "unique cubes" are pulling on the massive structure, that should be immoble and seems impractical to want to be able to make it mobile, to try and take it with them. kind of up-rooting it.
other inerpretations:
people vs. government
revolution
people connected through internet
etc...

Reviews

-I would go along with the description however slightly altered to
individual vs. society and the strings constantly being the influence
to conform.

-It really gave me the People vs. Government, Child Vs. Parent Feel.  Great Job!
