La Llorona, 2009
Woodblock Steamroller Print 50" x 103"
"La Llorona, or "The Weeping Woman", is based on a Mexican tale about a woman whose lover leaves her for another woman. La Llorona determines to kill her own children in a desperate attempt to win her lover back. Alone and in despair, she roams the countryside weeping. This work is also inspired by the prints of 16th and 17th century anatomists Andreas Vesalius and Frederik Ruysch, who often depicted weeping skeletons and anatomical figures convulsed by pathos."
