Statement

This is a small (7"x 4 1/2") but complex pot. The lid and feet need to have just the right balance. First, the pot and the lid were thrown. Then, the spiral feet and handle were applied. It has a turquoise color that originated as a red bronze glaze. A black glaze was used to accent a swirling ridge around the edges. The firing process involved a heavy reduction in the kiln with wood and propane. Flames shot out of the kiln about nine inches from every hole! My best guess is that the ash from the wood caused this piece to look as though it had an ash glaze applied from the start. Not so. I find this result to be another happy happenstance of the raku firing process.
