Statement

This pot is larger (8”x15”) and more “unusual” then most of my work. It is actually three thrown pieces put together. The base is an open collar. The middle is a solid bowl that I altered by compressing in four places. The top was thrown upside down and trimmed on the bottom to form the top. The pieces were scored, recentered and trimmed together. Then the lug-type decorations were applied. After that, brown and white colored slip was painted on the base and top of the pot and they, plus an ochre colored slip were trailed on the sections. A lid was thrown and the handle was grafted to it. Two glazes were used. A tourquose and black. It was fired in oxidation in an electric kiln and then subjected to the raku process. I was reading a book on Klimp at the time. He must have entered into my subconscious and thus the crazy spiral swirls. If he ever made pots, I would like to think that he made this one.
