Cast It Far, Cast It Wide
Prepared by Natasha Pestich and Jennifer Danos
Our proposal involves an interactive performance event using the Shanty as a place of meditation and the frozen landscape as a playground for emotional release. We will facilitate a one (or possibly two) day event that invites participants from the public to bring sentiments in the form of objects, gestures or words that may be treated like bait and symbolically ‘cast out’ for someone to find, respond to, or dismiss.
Sunday, February 11
A Two Hour Workshop with Olive Bieringa. Olive is a dance and video artist and co-director of the award winning BodyCartography Project. Her most recent solo Condition investigates the ecological entwinement of self, other and environment sourced from anatomy and the reality of global climate change.
In this workshop will investigates the physiology of the world around us and uses place as a medium to make art. Engaging the senses, perceptions, and the cartography of our bodies we will journey between our inner and outer landscapes to explore environmental issues on a micro and macro level. We will utilize skills and materials developed from Contact Improvisation, Body-Mind Centering and composition to explore, survey, and compose with the physical and social landscape of the frozen lake and ice shanty architecture.
