This (5"x6") pot was an interesting technical challenge. The piece was thrown on the wheel, trimmed at the foot, and then, carved on the top. The carving was organic or leaf-like and spiraled around the opening. Sprout-like lugs were added as decoration. Then a tiny lizard decided to peer into the center. The glaze on this pot illustrates the wonders of the raku process because of the unique color and wonderful copper highlights that make the pot the little treasure that it is. The tongs in the reduction process chipped the foot, but far from being a flaw, this becomes a signature feature for the piece, which will always be one of those that are close to my heart as I have grown as an artist.
