Patrick's Cabaret.
Discovery, development and synthesis of major architectural ?event/character? became the main focus of the design process for this small performance space. Through a collaborative dialogue between LEAD, Inc. and Patrick?s Cabaret we located a series of programatic elements that were essential to the cabaret?s vitality and development. Then the character of each element was explored regarding it?s utilitarian/functional, physical/material, and psychological/conceptual properties. Parallel to this as if we were writing a play, was the process of synthesizing these characters into a cohesive whole. This was achieved through manipulation of natural and artificial light, construction processes, use of building material, form, color and texture. The final project is a dynamic collection of autonomoous pieces, characters, set into a PLAYful and coherent composition,. The outcome is a material manifestation of this collaborative process whose focus were discovery and development rather than a fixation on preconceived notions from either parties.
