The feeling of one’s touch can be reasuring, comforting, hurtful, among many others. What happens when that person is gone- when you no longer have a choice of having their touch or their presence. With Loneliness I created a piece to help myself explore this idea. In todays age it seems as though we are all connected around the world- I can email my grandparents in Germany everyday at no cost, I can see them and they can see me through digital pictures. With all this technology being developed why do I still miss them what is it that makes me able to talk to someone so far away and yet miss them still? I realized that touch and their physical presence is something that technology has not replicated. I reflected this in my piece through the digitallized hand that is created on the exterior of the box. I used this to create a relationship to the idea that technology has connected the world… In contrast the interior hand is my own, very human and realistic. I wanted to create this relationship between the technology and reality.
