Oil on canvas
In my art, I have been trying to explore different techniques and styles. My works are a window into the steps I’m taking to find my muse. I emphasize personal experience and my own views on love, loss, and society; I want to evoke familiar emotions and relations with my viewers.
I enjoy pushing myself to try new things and subjects that I am unfamiliar with. In particular, I have a problem painting the human figure and skin. However, my goal is to become more impressionistic. However, I feel that in order to be more graphic and unrealistic, I need to be familiar with realism, and need to be able to depict something accurately in order to distort it. As my art leans more towards realism, I feel that I’m closer to being able to be more graphic and unrealistic. I would enjoy being able to paint without having to be grounded in an image, which I am struggling to do.
In the future, I see my art going in a more graphic and bold direction. I hope to be able to step away from reality and embrace the imagery of my imagination and impulse.
