Group Improvisation. Photo Feratures The Brass Messengers, Anna MArie Shogren, Pam Plagge, and Suzanne Costello.
Piece created for the show, Pam Plagge Laurie Van Wieren Judith Howard Eva Mohn Suzanne Costello Anna Marie Shogren, an assignment based performance at the BLB Theater on April 29th. "Don't have calf muscles" grew out of some terrific instructions from Laurie Van Wieren.
"Don't Have Calf Muscles or Eyebrow" a remount of the first was perfromed at the Walker Art Center at the 2007 Choreographers Evening and featured special guests, Chris Schichting, Joanna Furnans, Laurie Van Wieren, Monica Thomas, Theresa Madaus, And Tara King.
Anna Marie Shogrenıs "Donıt have calf muscles," based on Van Wierenıs
instructions, got the loudest laughs of the night. Shogren wears a certain
expression of silly, blank-check conviction, which somehow makes everything
that she does amusing, particularly when each movement is executed in
task-fashion, without physical conviction. Shogrenıs absurdity left me
wondering what exactly I was laughing at; she milks the oddity of
performance for all (and a little bit more than) itıs worth.
