Cocoon Series
Cocoon: any protective encompassing or hermetic wrapping or enclosure.
These paintings are part of a larger series on which I am currently working. Conceptually, the cocoon serves as a metaphor for the self-preservation techniques we use at times of emotional distress. When bad things happen, people are often heard making statement such as, “I just want to curl into the fetal position”. These works are exploring the ideas of regression, the ways we protect ourselves, and the difficulty of freeing ourselves once we’ve built ourselves this cocoon. The investigation of color, texture, and interaction between various mediums provide the backdrop.
I view this series as if they could be illustrations, perhaps standing beside journal entries
