Every year in my garden, one burgundy iris blooms and takes my breath away with its rich and surprising colors. After doing a sketch, I just had to get close with my camera and submerge myself in all the complexity of its form. I love how the deepest part of the flower is the color that jumps out at you, and some of the darkest parts are the ones which actually should be coming forward in space......but I’ve taken a thoroughly subjective, playful take on it. Her silhouette (for this is definitely a “she’) --reminds me of the red ruffles of a flamenco dancer, and I listened to Arabian Flamenco music while trying to capture her voluptuous spirit in motion.....
