Anna at 15

This is a portrait of my daughter, who earned some extra cash posing for my pastel students in 2006. I let the class pick their spots, and took the profile view, which seems to express her attitude of independence and casual glamour well. She likes it. One of the judges, curator at a well-known local gallery, said that this painting actually moved her to tears. I know I feel that way when I think of all I want and hope for her, and think about how strong and vulnerable she is, all at once. I guess I must’ve revealed my heart when I painted her.
