The Kinetic Kitchen is a dance series showcasing diversely talented dance companies and choreographers working in Minnesota. The series is in it's 4th season of presenting new dances under the direction of presenter Sarah LaRose-Holland. 70 different choreographers have shown work in the Kinetic Kitchen since it's inception in 2004. Al-Bahira Middle Eastern Dance Theater is a professional Twin Cities-based troupe. Al-Bahira blends authentic Middle Eastern dance with modern ethno-fusion and theatrical works that celebrate the wonder and beauty of music and dance as a part of everyday life. The works are sometimes funny, sometimes touching, and filled with joyous spirit and talented dancers. Artistic director and choreographer Mirah Ammal's fascination with the central role dance, music, and oral tradition occupy in the culture and day-to-day lives of the Middle Eastern peoples, and her interest in dance and music as living and ever-evolving art forms guides the group's work toward theatrical pieces with an often with an organic, story-based tone. Jeffrey Peterson Dance presents Rouse, a dance work for four men that confronts cultural margins with its range of provocative physicality. A rant on identity and relationships, the work multidimensionally dissects male-to-male interactions through intense partnering and a vividly descriptive movement vocabulary. Rouse marries intimacy with severity while investigating the male body and psyche. Rouse was commissioned by Dance New Amsterdam's In The Company of Men performance showcase, and first premiered in May, 2007 in New York City; this performance is its Minneapolis premier.

Kinetic Evolutions will present A Touch of Sass, a playful trio that explores sassy physical dialogue and Stuck in Five, an amusing and systematic quintet that goes about the daily grind with an active twist. These playful and dynamic dances are a great alternative perspective to the daily routine. The company will also premiere a new spin on an oldie but a goodie, showing the softer side of the company's physical sensibilities.

Lindsay Anderson’s H2O is a piece inspired by the movement of water. I see the dancers as waves, in a sense, and explore how waves can move with and against each other. Waves take on an ebb and flow relationship. I try to mesh this movement relationship with the subtle human relationship that exists between the dancers. Overall, the atmosphere of the piece is calming and the dance tends to recycle itself the way waves do.
