Digital Collage and Poem
(My expression of grief and confusion over the events of September 11th, to honor the innumerable Victims and Heroes.)

i lament
in the face of anger, discontent and such seething hatred,
that breeds fanatics, terrorism and jihad,
i lament.
in the face of bigotry, separatism and isolationism,
that polarizes cultures and societies from one another irrevocably,
i lament.
in the face of suicidal bombers,
seeking glorification and a perverse brand of infamy in the name of Allah,
i lament.
in the face of extremists who shame their women beneath the weight of a burqa,
and starve innocent children in the name of religious orthodoxy,
i lament.
in the face of oppression and religious zealotry,
that crushes the throats of millions with unflinching evil under the guise of Islam,
i lament.
in the name of tens of thousands of innocent children who flee to the Afghan borders,
powerless to stop the terrorism that surrounds them,
i lament.
amid the smouldering rubble of an eerily distorted landscape,
wrought with twisted steel monoliths, crushed granite and tons of splintered glass,
i lament.
in the name of those who were caught unaware,
and perished in that moment of unfathomable evil,
i lament.
in honor of the thousands of men and women whose very existence was erased from this earth,
by nineteen mad-men hell bent on destruction,
i lament.
in the wake of that September morning
which scarred the face of America irrevocably, and robbed us of our innocence,
i lament.
in the name of the thousands who were lost that day,
who would never sanction hatred in the name of vengeance,
and would shudder with horror at the behavior of racists espousing patriotism
while tormenting and harassing those whose skin is not quite white enough to blend in,
i lament.
in the name of the deceased whose souls now murmur and weep
amid the winds that echo between remnants of broken skyscrapers,
i lament.
in the name of the thousands whose only traces and last remains,
are the billowing ashes which fell to the ground like nuclear fallout,
to be crushed under the feet of those who struggled in vain to find them,
i lament.
in grateful, humble, homage to the heroic fire fighters, police and rescuers,
who sacrificed their own lives hoping to save those of countless, nameless strangers,
i lament.
in honor of thousands of simple, shining, common heroes,
who instinctively raced toward the cataclysm, armed only with shovels and axes,
praying to find someone alive beneath the still burning rubble,
i lament.
in respectful thanks to the sad, soft-eyed rescue dogs, that wriggled on their singed bellies
beneath the rumbling mountain of smouldering, twisted steel and concrete,
searching in vain for some sign of human life,
i lament.
in the name of thousands of babies, little boys and tiny girls,
whose parents can never come home to kiss them goodnight and tuck them into bed again,
i lament.
in the name of our innocence,
as a society that once prided itself for our freedom of thought, speech and movement,
that may never be the same again,
i lament.
in honor of those hundreds who in an instant became unwitting martyrs,
as they wept and prayed knowing there was no hope left,
huddled together in the rear of doomed 747s,
i lament.
in respect for the dead who lived simple lives that honored their personal gods,
through Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hindu, Islam and even agnosticism,
i lament.
in the name of millions of Americans of all colors, creeds and nationalities,
who decry the ignorance and hatred exemplified by a handful of racist terrorists
hell-bent on destruction and evil on the morning of September 11th,
i lament.
