An Evening of Chekhov Comedies
The Bear
Directed by Genevieve Bennett
The Proposal
Directed by Markell Kiefer
February 6th and 7th; 2007
Directors, Genevieve Bennett and Markell Kiefer present the comic genius of Anton Chekhov with two short plays, The Bear and The Proposal. Performers include Paul Cram, Dylan Fresco, Emily Gunyou, Kari Kelly, David Lind and Michael Ooms.
In The Bear a pistol-wielding widow and a high strung landowner step into the ring for a raucous battle of the sexes. In The Proposal Ivan is ready to propose, but all Natasha wants to do is fight. Will love mount the insurmountable in these ridiculous one-acts?
Chekhov, most well known for masterpieces such as The Seagull and The Cherry Orchard, also wrote several short comic sketches. In these short comedies, translated by Paul Schmidt, the subterranean humor of his long works comes to the forefront, resulting in plays that are both hilariously funny and brilliantly crafted.
The Bear and The Proposal played to sold-out audiences!
