Title: New Life

Artist's Statement: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away; behold all things are become new." 2 Cor 5:17 KJV Work's focus is cross and new life through Christ. Discarded lumber is salvaged and transformed to new work of art.

A triptych of building lath was Third Place tie winner “New Life” by Larry Holmberg. As he remolded an older home, Larry realized he saw in the removed lath strips, with their square nails, the image of the cross. From pieces of the lath he built an assemblage shadow box with a cross of lath in the box. When finished with one box he said “it looked incomplete” and he went on to build two accompanying shadow boxes. When done, without intention, Larry’s “New Life” is a contemporary triptych of a classic altar piece.
