day one is about what happens when we begin our lives all over again. It is a one-character, four-voice jazz aesthetic performance work that uses text, mixed media, gesture language, movement, and the telling of my "re-beginnings." At the age of 32, as a queer Korean American adoptee, it is the story of my current ongoing search for my birth mother. After finding out on my first return to Korea this past year that her name was and is known by the agency that I was adopted through; even though they always denied knowing a thing about her. Using my own personal experiences, as an adoptee, I intend to expose light on the controversial topic of international adoption and to challenge the mentality that holds that we are merely "poor unfortunate orphans."
