While traveling in Italy in May we came upon a narrow, winding, deserted gravel road through groves of ancient olive trees. Brilliant scarlet poppies filled the landscape as we traveled from Spello to Assisi. The intensity of of the color against the gray-green of the olive trees was breath-taking.
