‘Some Enchanted Evening’ at Zabee

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II formed one of the most successful musical collaborations in history, including “Oklahoma!,” “Carousel,” “State Fair,” “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and “The Sound of Music.” Their musicals have played to more than 25,000 audiences and continue to be performed nightly in theaters across the world.
More than anything, Rodgers and Hammerstein stand for the songs like “Getting to Know You,” “It’s a Grand Night for Singing,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “Bali Ha’i” still resonating with audiences after more than half a century.
Actors Theater of Minnesota, based in St. Paul, returns to Zabee Theater Friday and Saturday with “Some Enchanted Evening,” a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical revue, sponsored by the Elk River Area Arts Alliance. The two-hour shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
Actors Theater managing director Bill Collins says of “Some Enchanted Evening:” “The revue is strictly about the Rodgers and Hammerstein music. There are no stage sets. No costumes really. Just four vocalists and a pianist.”
For two enchanted evenings, audiences at Zabee Theater will have a chance to hum along with Rodgers and Hammerstein songs.
Tickets are now on sale at the Coborn’s Superstore at the information counter, Mikols River Studio, and the Elk River Area Arts Alliance office, all in Elk River. Tickets are $17 for regular admission and $14 for seniors, students, and Elk River Area Arts Alliance members. They can also be purchased at the night of the performance.
After Friday night’s show, there will be a special reception for Sharon Tracy, retiring executive director of the Elk River Area Arts Alliance. The public is invited. Call 763-441-4725 or e-mail to elkriverart@sherbtel.net.
