Second Place winner Kevin Showell’s “Transcendence” is a piece of white oak cut from a fork in the middle of the tree burned and scared by a lightning strike. Kevin shaped the cracked wood, with its chard edge, into a bowl, a bowel with flaws whose beauty transcends those defects. With the skills of expert woodworker and a clear eyed sense of the reverence Kevin reminds the viewer, that even with imperfections they are beautiful creation.
