Statement

This is a still from an unperformed dance piece.
It was displayed at the 2002 Minnesota State Fair.
The following text is printed on the screen in the image and is the instructions for the dance:

THE SCRAPE

1) Swimming School of dunce hats, B in corner grabbing dirt.

2) One pulls movie screen down, B scatters dirt.

3) School jousts/head butts, hearing aids, megaphones all w/o removing headgear. Motives: serving others (work, date, school), serving oneself (daydream, declamation). If head gear falls off dancer falls down dead, is dragged off stage. B’s eyes transfixed, dirt scattered or thrown, rubbed or smeared accordingly on self/walls.

4) Tall black courtly one halts, gestures at B; B is seized by another point-head. Tall black puts arm round pink one, grabs a cone off another’s head (who promptly dies) uses as megaphone pointed at B “summoning him into existence via the word (horn blast)”.

5) Buzby Berkeley cut-a-way: B in center, hats encircle him, bowing up and down.

6) Tall black pushes cone onto B’s head.

7) Bird-beaked one pecks on side of B’s head.

8) B goes nuts (in this version, could be drawn out) grabbing cones using them as hearing trumpets, funnels, megaphones, binoculars, body count mounts. Finally, laying on the ground, uses his own funnel into 3rd eye, and expires in this position.

9) New cones appear, hoist him to shoulder height and exit.
