Statement

The images and subjects that I paint come from twists on sketches of things that I think of. These things could be subjects of sketches that have changes and shown up many times over the years or something that I thought of while I couldn't sleep. I find that my mind wanders and I come to these images and/or ideas of things. Through painting I try to find a way to show and create this images.

Movement is conveyed in my pieces through the application of paint. I build up paint and colors through many layers of application, I enjoy how I am able to zone out and become apart of the painting. Although, I usually start with only a vague idea of the subject matter and how I would like the brush strokes to move through the paint; the painting from beginning to end changes through the process.

I am still learning how to transfer the images that I construct in my mind on the the surface that I am working on. I am constantly trying find palettes of color, while always finishing my pieces by bringing a neutral black into the compositions. Most of my work done this semester has been of figures, some more identifable as women, in dark spaces. Where they appear to be trapped, pulled into and/ or attempting to escape from.

I look forward to seeing where this imageries takes my work as an artist and influence my work in photography.
