The bginning of a series of 20 works based on a Matthew Brady photograph from the 1860s. I have always been fascinated by the formal dress of that period.

Carlotta was the Empress of Mexico between 1864 and 1867 when the government was overthrown in a popular revolt by Benito Juarez and her husband, Maximillian, was executed.
