About the performers…
Amy Trayers is a ballet student with Classical Ballet Academy in St. Paul. She has performed in Ballet Minnesota's productions of "The Classic Nutcracker", "Elfan", "Nightmare" and "At The Museum". Amy began dancing at age 3 with Riverbend Dance Arts in Hastings where Sarah LaRose-Holland was one of her first dance instructors. Amy is 12 years old.
Amy will be performing a ballet solo she choreographed to George Gershwin's "Prelude #2". On Feb. 11, 1937, while playing the piano with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gershwin lost consciousness, skipped a few bars, then continued as if nothing had happened. In July of that year he underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor and never regained consciousness. He died on July 11, 1937. Amy's dance represents Gershwin's death and the feelings he went through during the last days of his life.
Eclectic Edge Ensemble, directed by Karis Sloss, will perform a new piece titled "backwards in heels." "Backwards in heels" will showcase the strength, passion, and drive of ten women as they work off of the music's rhythm, pulse and emotions. Dancers include Kristin Grohs, Becky Olson, Megan Mohr, Sarah Beck-Esmay, Katrina Schleisman, Susanne Grochett, Heather Dunne, Erinn Liebhard, Emily Broeker and Vanessa Fische.
A contemporary jazz dance company with a diverse repertory, Eclectic Edge Ensemble collaborates with local musicians, choreographers, and other artists to create musically and theatrically inspired work. The company aims to present a fresh perspective on jazz dance in the Twin Cities, creating accessible performance experiences that connect to audiences through the pure joy of movement. More information about Eclectic Edge Ensemble is available at www.eclecticedgeensemble.com
SAGE Award winning choreographer John Munger has danced, acted, choreographed, directed, sung and spoken in countless plays, dance concerts, musicals, recitals, films, ballets, TV productions, operas, and assorted events in many cities, towns and other locations in several states and nations over a life-sized number of decades. He is Artistic Director and founder of the Third Rabbit Dance Ensemble, dance blogger for the MN Fringe Festival and Director of Research and Information for Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance.
Third Rabbit Dance Ensemble will perform the following works. "Barada Nikto" derives its name from the famous alien-language line in the classic sci-fi film, "The Day the Earth Stood Still," and means something like "Is in trouble and needs help." Dawn Strom's solo, "A Way Out" was developed through Daniel Nagrin's process of meditative image-making and is based on the premise that someone or something is trying to find a way out. "Goin' Back" is a character study of a simple fellow who can't handle the Big City. "Wrath" was created for Mischievous Djinn's show, "The Seven Deadlies," and is an uncomfortably humorous but cathartically brutal evocation of boundless rage held in.
Ray Terrill Dance Group has been performing in and around the Twin Cities since Ray relocated from the Pacific Northwest in 1997. Ray has extensive experience as a performer, choreographer, teacher, presenter, and arts program administrator. He started his professional modern dance career as a member of Repertory Dancers Northwest until relocating to Portland Oregon. There he eventually became co-artistic director of Oregon Dance Consort where he choreographed over 40 original works including guest artist commissions. He served as Executive Director of the Dance Coalition of Oregon for a three-year term. Since moving to the Twin Cities, Ray spent several seasons as a member of the Christopher Watson Dance Company while establishing the Ray Terrill Dance Group. Proficient in classical modern dance technique he has evolved a style all his own described as uniquely spiritual and lyrical on one hand while irreverent and quirky on the other. Inspired by wide-ranging music styles he frequently explores provocative subject matter and complex emotion. Even so, he keenly mines his material to expose the universal human experience. Ray enjoys a parallel career as an executive producer developing rich-media interactive communications and distance learning solutions. Consequently his more recent work has incorporated video, animation, and text as a backdrop to extend his choreographic themes. Numerous government, foundation, and corporate arts funding agencies have generously supported his choreography and his dances have been presented in several venues including the On the Boards, Portland Center for the Performing Arts, International Firehouse Cultural Center, Echo Theater, Festival of Physical Comedy, Walker Art Center, Weisman Art Museum, Lakeville Performing Arts, Hopkins Performing Arts Center-Art on the Edge, Dances at the Lakes and numerous Minnesota Fringe Festivals.
Ray Terrill Dance Group will perform “State of Grace” with music by Guiseppe Torelli, Giovanni Pergolesi and danced by Paulette Mattson, Carol Oyanagi, Christina Plichta and Ray Terrill. “State of Grace” explores the states of grace that fuels inspiration and occurs in rare moments when clarity prevails and we sense universal truth. Particularly when the dancing body portrays the physical gift of experience, at core the unmistakable good fortune of material and human existence. The times when we encounter profound beauty and intimacy with others.
Kinetic Evolutions dance company is excited to perform “Going to the Soirée” at the Kinetic Kitchen. Company members Megan Bridges, Catherine Decker, Hai Dang Nguyen, Kayla Schiltgen, Una Setia, Jen Swanson, Sarah LaRose-Holland & guest Sarah Hauss will take you out on the town with this dance. “Going to the Soirée” is the beginning of a larger body of work that LaRose-Holland started working on in fall of 2009. The company looks forward to ongoing development of this dance culminating in a full evening production for the company.

The company has performed in Lunafest at the Mounds Theatre, in Riverbend Dance Art’s Spring Concerts in Hastings, at the Dances at the Lakes Festival sponsored by the Christopher Watson Dance Company in Minneapolis, at the Dances on the Lakewalk in Duluth hosted by Ressl Dance!, in the Earthfusion Festival in Roseville, at the Women & Spirituality Conference at Minnesota State University, Mankato, as part of “Quickening: on the cusp of Spring” at the Carnegie Arts Center in Mankato, in the 9 x 22: A Dance Lab series at the Bryant Lake Bowl (BLB) in Minneapolis, in the first production of Sample Night Live at the BLB in Minneapolis, in a benefit at Woodland Hills Church to help raise funds to send one of the company dancers to Romania to work with orphaned children, In Motion at the St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth, in the Dance & Desserts performances hosted by Christopher Watson Dance Company at Ballareteatro Performing Arts Center and the Movement Arts Center in Minneapolis, in Patrick’s Zombie Cabaret fundraiser held at the Fine Line Music Café, and in a handful of Kinetic Kitchen performances.
