The design of the facade. . .was developed quite late in the overall design process. While it is true that Rapson's whimsical facade became a well-known feature of the theater, and was a totally unique artistic expression, it was simply the outermost layer of skin - not unlike a theatrical mask - on a vibrant theater organism. To condemn the Guthrie Theater because its facade has been removed is very like judging a book by its cover. --Jane King Hession
