-->MOBILE HOTSPOT
Mobile Hotspot is an
exploration of freedom through experiments in alternative energy, the
reclamation of public space, and utilization of global social networks. As a
response to the rising fuels costs and blind consumption of energy in U.S. society,
this project explores the potential of alternative energy production for
everyday use by developing a mobile energy production platform from scrap car
parts and exercise equipment, all in a compact mobile broadcast unit. These
explorations are founded on the concept of freedom, from reliance on energy
firstly, but more broadly by the social freedoms demanded in the recent
uprisings in Egypt, Libya, and even Wisconsin. What does it mean to have the
right to free speech and how can we energize public space by creating a forum
that asks questions about the nature of our own sense or freedom, or lack
thereof? The Mobile Hotspot will be tracking thoughts on freedom across the
world by projecting live feeds of tweets containing #freedom and #mobilehotspot
twitter hashtags. Please participate in this event by tweeting your thoughts on
freedom with any of these tags during Northern Spark to have them projected
onto various buildings around Minneapolis’ first
center of energy, St. Anthony Falls.
This mobile hotspot will also allow the general public to use lasers to
literally write onto buildings and will offer free DIY plans to build your very
own electricity generator.

Show times for this event
will vary throughout the night beginning at 10 pm at the Southeast Steam Plant
near the East end of the Stone Arch Bridge and will move throughout the
festival grounds via pedal power.
