Statement

DEAD ASSETS    is a visual history book.  A family album put together over a four-year period.  For each page, I have created a mixed medium collage.  Making images that emotionally connect me to my past.  Trees are used as a metaphor to express my ethnic roots.
 The darker images have to do with the unknown history of my father.  like in the work, ‘Adlore’.  Other subconscious and conscious issues are represented by a dark surface, the reality of sexual abuse in my father’s family, and the  early death of my father.  In my work ‘Julia and Me’, I found comfort in my father’s house of women.                                                                  
Some of the lighter images are my mother’s history.  Very conscious and well known to me.                                 In addition, my soul mate’s history brightly lit, as in the work ‘Cliff ‘.  In my image ‘Milo Tree’, there are still plenty of instincts and unknowns represented by its darkness.
 In making this work I have found the most joy and satisfaction in those who came before me.
