One of the greatest contributions of our explorations into space has been the new view of our world. Earth’s face had never before been seen in all its spectacular beauty, complete and connected. From this new perspective we can see that Earth is alive with diversity and dynamic activity. We can see that the oceans, land and atmosphere are all connected, all linked together to form one living system. And we are inextricably connected to this world as well. It is our home.
It is from this perspective that I create my paintings. Orbital and aerial views of our world never cease to amaze me. They reveal the familiar as well as the foreign as small parts of a larger whole. And it is this idea that I explore through my work. I am not a landscape painter in a traditional sense. My goal is not to paint a visually accurate depiction of a specific place, but rather to create an abstract based on the discovery of and an understanding of the nature of that place.
I am inspired by the remote and the unfamiliar, by the path less traveled. I have a strong desire to travel and explore and perhaps it is this desire that drives my work. Through my painting, I bring myself a step closer to truly seeing, understanding and connecting with this world in which I live.
