A kind of Whitney Biennial of dance, this mobile showcase taps the country's best emerging talent... and sends them on the road. - Minnesota Monthly
SCUBA has been a very important part of our dance community. Touring with Scuba is a way that dance makers can get their work out into the world beyond their own community. SCUBA Network for Dance, has allowed artists to share their work across the country. This year the Twin Cities SCUBA will live at Patrick's Cabaret -- another venue that has been very important in helping dance artists create work here in Minnesota. - Laurie Van Wieren
For ten years, The SCUBA National Touring Network for Dance, a consortium of contemporary dance presenters, has been presenting some of the best emerging dancemakers and performers in the country. Situated in some of the most exciting dance communities in the country: ODC Theater in San Francisco, Velocity Dance Center in Seattle, Philadelphia Dance Projects and in Minneapolis, first at the Southern Theater and this year at Patrick's Cabaret in Minneapolis. SCUBA is a National Endowment for the Arts funded program with national recognition. Founded by artists, and artist driven, SCUBA's primary purpose is to provide an entry point to professional touring for locally-established, nationally-emerging dance artists in order to experience the touring model and begin to build a national base. The 2012 season will mark the ten-year anniversary of this innovative model.
Angharad Davies (Twin Cities) presents Emotional Genius, a new trio featuring outstanding Twin Cites dancers Megan Mayer, Maggie Bergeron and Rachel Freeburg. With Emotional Genius, Davies continues her study of human interaction by focusing her choreographic lens on the tension between genuine emotionality and artifice. Using physical exchanges, dialogue, and dance to walk the delicate line between the sincere and the synthetic. In the process, the performers concoct emotion and conjure meaningful interpersonal relationships as they vie for the title of Emotional Genius.
Davies' Work Party is so funny, and executed with such conviction and split-second timing by the cast... that I would have gone for the rewind button if I could have. - Lightsey Darst, mnartists.org
Angharad Davies is an award-winning dancer, choreographer, and teacher, recently relocated to Minneapolis from Berlin, Germany. Allie Hankins (Seattle) presents her newest solo - Like a Sun That Pours Forth Light but Never Warmth a physically demanding solo performance, influenced by the life of famed historical dance figure Vaslav Nijinsky. Hankins transforms the material into her own idiosyncratic and precise dance against a backdrop of gold-bathed muscle and lurid color.
Allie Hankins' physicality is sensual and articulate, and her poetic offerings contain infinite layers. - Beth Graczyk
Hankins, a lithe presence on the stage, gives us a physically demanding solo performance that accentuates the individual mastery of the human body and the rigor needed to make this work look effortless. - José Amador, The Seattlest
Allie Hankins is the founder and artistic director of Part & Parcel, a newly established contemporary performance company that explores image-making and the codification of body language as a choreographic catalyst. A Seattle resident since 2008, Hankins has performed as a member of local companies Salt Horse (Corrie Befort, Beth Graczyk and Angelina Baldoz), Josephine's Echopraxia (Marissa Niederhauser) and PB_TMOG (Paige Barnes), and was the movement designer for Implied Violence's The Dorothy K. -- with which she toured to New York's New Island Festival and Austria's Donau Festival. She has been the recipient of the Flight Deck Residency at Open Flight Studio, was recently awarded the ROOT Season Residency at Studio Current, and will be collaborating on a new performance work entitled Leaving, Number One, The End of The End with playwright Mandie O'Connell in Berlin this Autumn. http://partandparcelperformance.wordpress.com
