Statement

Ballet of the Dolls is working to bring the Historic Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis back to life as its permanent performance space and as a community destination for the Sheridan Neighborhood, Northeast Minneapolis, and the entire
arts community. A revitalized Ritz Theater will serve as a catalyst for economic and cultural growth in the community, will establish a valuable new multi-use performance and education venue for use by local non-profit performance and community groups, and will provide a permanent home for Ballet of the Dolls to fulfill its programming mission. The theater is in the heart of a neighborhood that is currently in renewal, designated by the City of Minneapolis as an Arts District in the recently adopted Northeast Minneapolis Arts Action Plan. An active theater in this emerging neighborhood on the east side of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis will strengthen the capacity of several organizations to serve their constituencies, and will serve as a needed destination point to bring visitors to the community to visit local restaurants, galleries, shops, and to participate in a wide variety of the neighborhood's cultural and community activities.

Reviews

"I feel this could be a very valuable and unique performance venue that would foster the development and visibility of many of the small to mid-sized compaines in town."
--Joe Chvala, Flying Foot Forum

"This (the Ritz Theater) is a wonderful opportunity to support a joyous neighborhood collaboration. The Dolls define theater/dance art in infinite ways. I can't say enough in support of this project."
--James R. Scoggin, Marcy Open School
