tack on the Suburbs-Grumpy’s Art Unveiling Party
Saturday, March 29th, 10 PM-2 AM
Grumpy’s Roseville
As usual we don't know what to quite to call this event. Part art show, part art installation, and part multi-media art animation thingy.
10:00pm Shag Unveiling - Cocktails and Hors Douvres
11:00pm John Grider Mural Unveiling
11:30pm Lori Barbero (Babes In Toyland) DJ's
1:00am Screening of A Purge Of Dissidents
OX-OP in conjunction with Grumpy's Roseville invites you to our Grand Opening And Art Unveiling. Everyone on the list should be familiar with local artist John Grider ( www.brokencrow.com). He's been commissioned to create two massive 18 foot tall stencil murals in the bar. These are original pieces created exclusively for Grumpy's. Though they may be of a pop art leaning, they're steeped in symbolism, as the 2 designs represent the history of Minneapolis & St. Paul, in beer history that is! Grain Belt has helped us in this endeavor and that should give a clue as to the Minneapolis part. With Grumpy's step across the river, throw in another dash of significance (man I love those art terms).
I'm sure a lot of you have also heard of Shag before ( www.shag.com ). At the forefront of the Juxtapoz/Low Brow movement, Shag has become an international figure in the fine art world. In 2001, OX-OP hosted his first gallery show outside of L.A., and two subsequent shows that sold-out in minutes. Consider it a retrospective of sorts, but Shag has forked over 13 artists proofs for the cause (Grumpy's suburban invasion). There will be a hyper-limited amount of these rare artist's proofs available for sale as well.
There's also going to be a 1am viewing of A Purge Of Dissidents ( http://apurgeofdissidents.com/ ), the multi-media collaboration between HAZE-XXL and Dalek. The Purge show recently toured the U.S. in conjunction with the Melvins 2007 tour, and has shown at the Galleries Magda Danysz Gallery in Paris in 2006. There's nothing quite like seeing it on Grumpy's huge screen, with a great sound system and an additional 30 big screens sporting it.
