MINNEAPOLIS, MN – One of Detroit's most celebrated and successful underground artists. His mesmerizing paintings of robots, creatures and vixens have appeared in galleries from New York to Seattle and San Francisco. It's a special treat for OX-OP to be hosting Barr's Twin Cities debut, fresh from his sell out show at the legendary La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles and fresh on the heels of the release of "Lowlife Paradise", the newest book of collected works (published by Last Gasp).

Working out of the burgeoning lowbrow movement in Detroit, Barr uses elements of pop culture to infuse familiarity in an otherwise parallel universe where angels and devils alike share the same playground…a seedy yet swinging 1960's tableaux drenched in the haze of a post industrial hangover.

Barr presents views of the urban landscape as a subversive underworld on an apocalyptic horizon. Be it femme fatales or otherwordly scenarios, his visuals might just prove him to be his generation's ultimate erotic/surrealist painter. As one critic penned, "Barr's work is the visual equivalent of a David Lynch film."

A graduate of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, he has made the city his home base. In addition to showing in national galleries on a regular basis, Barr's work has been featured in a variety of comics and graphic novels such as Mad, DC Comics and Paradox Press as well as in a series of self-published books known as HEEP. His paintings have been reproduced in art journals including Juxtapoz, Juxtapoz Erotica and Film Threat magazine.

OX-OP is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 4-8pm as well as by appointment, with new shows opening the first Saturday of every month.
