MINNEAPOLIS, MN – OX-OP ARTS welcomes Los Angeles based David Burke, whom has been exhibiting in America, Japan and Australia since 1994.

Often described as an extremist pop surrealist, Burke explores the blurred lines between monsters and oddball heroes, mirroring American trash-pop culture. His paintings comment on his fascination of the late 50's and 60's paralleling TV personas such as "The Munsters" and Adam West's "Batman." With these humorous intentions, he has collaborated with the likes of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth illustrating covers for “Rat Fink” magazine.

Often compared to Robert Williams, Burke makes his departure into Americana
by poking fun at "lowbrow" icons with his own surrealist style. Pulling the paint straight from the tube to take full advantage of the garish colors, he explores the forgotten innocence and camped-up style of Frankenstein, lady vamps and mummies; trash culture perceptions with his eerily erotic notions of foot fetish; and even monster-driven hotrods.

Burke describes his new series for the Ox-Op Gallery as "exhibit a continued progression toward clean design, restraint and spaciousness, while stepping away from obvious narrative and self-aware irony."

Come witness the spectacle, get creeped out and fall in love.

After Burke, November sees the arrival of Jeff Soto, whose work has been popping up all over recent albums, not to mention the front cover of local weekly City Pages.

OX-OP is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 4-8pm as well as by
appointment, with new shows opening the first Saturday of every month.
