MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- On June 2nd, 2004, OX-OP Gallery (voted BEST GALLERY in the City Pages “Best Of” issue) will host Frank Kozik, poster artist extraordinaire. This will be the third time OX-OP curator Tom Hazelmyer has lured Kozik to the Twin Cities; the first two sold-out shows were at OX-OP’s previous incarnation as Grumpy’s City Club Gallery.
Born in Madrid, Spain in 1962. Frank Kozik moved to the United States at the age of 14 and settled in Austin, Texas. Credited with single-handedly reviving the "lost" art of the concert poster, Frank's creative career grew largely out of his enthusiasm for Austin's growing underground rock scene in the mid-eighties.
Starting with black and white flyers for friends’ bands posted on telephone poles, his reputation grew as an artist whose work was graphically compelling as well as culturally gripping. With hundreds of full-color, limited edition, silk screened posters under his belt for such renowned artists as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Beastie Boys, he has also been the subject of numerous magazine articles in everything from Newsweek to Details; Rolling Stone and Spin to Juxtapoz. Newspapers like The San Francisco Chronicle and The Toronto Star have also featured stories on Frank Kozik and his work.
Having achieved international prominence as an influential artist, Kozik's art is definitely not limited to the rock world. His work has been featured in ads for companies such as Nike and Absolut Vodka, among other heavyweights. He has even directed a music video for Soundgarden that saw airplay worldwide. In addition, Kozik has also seen three successful compendiums of his works released as books.
Currently, Frank has delved into the fine arts via oil paintings while also diving headlong into the new emerging Art Toy world exploding in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Toying with harsh political content and exploring the inverse iconagraphy of power, Kozik renders evil impotent and places Hitler at the not so tender mercies of toddlers everywere.

OX-OP is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 4-8pm as well as by
appointment, with new shows opening the first Saturday of every month.
