Statement

A framed print of God At Work was taken to Martin, Slovakia, September 2005, for the dedication of an historic dormatory building that was part of the first school in Slovakia. This building was rebuilt with the help of many building teams from various churches in the United States who went to Martin for 10-day time periods over 3 years. This text fit so well the physical and spiritual rebuilding being done in Martin's Bible School by the residents and so many volunteers.

Published: in The Encyclopedia of Calligraphy by Claudia Tate and Mary Noble, published in England, released in summer 2005.

The text is taken from I Thessolonians 2:9-13. "Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it acrtually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe."
The city was founded in 316 BC by one of Alexander the Great's generals. It was the capital of the Roman province of Macedonia and today is the second largest city of modern Greece. Paul arrived there in 50 AD and established a CHristian community or a few Jewish converts and a large number of Greeks. In this excerpt from chapter 2, Paul summarizes his work among them.
