Statement

Hand of God - Encouragement, New Year's greeting
"And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year — Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown!
And he replied — God out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way."
This was used by King Edward in his 1939 Christmas broadcast to the people of England as World War II was spreading across Europe. The poem was written in 1908 by Minnie Louise Haskins an American lecturer at the London School of Economics. Though she had some things published, writing was her hobby. It was reported that she was astonished to hear her poem being read by the King; she gave royalties earned from subsequent interest in the poem to charity. After the King's death, the Queen Mother had it engraved on bronze plaques on the entrance to the King George VI Memorial Chapel, Windsor.
The future is uncertain, but I can place my trust in God who has promised to hold and guide and live the present in hope.
Isaiah 41:10 - "I am your God, I will strengthen, help and uphold you with my victorious right hand."
Hebrews 11:8 - "By faith, Abraham trusted God ... he went out not knowing where he was going."
